A uniform jacket always inspired numerous designers (including Ralph Lauren, Phillip Plein, Burberry, Balmain…). My pop and street art inspired work here features Andy Warhol and my own fashion sketches, in jackets with uniform attributes. On stage, it has long become a “cult garb” for many artists.
But what role does the uniform play in fashion? Is it a “militarization of the civilian” or a “civilization of the military” (Hans Christian Dany, “Mode und Uniform”)? Does a fashion style uniformize its “followers”? Or is it acceptable to simply take the uniform look out of the context of the military and just wear it for the good tailoring and accessories? I’m carving it on the wall here: UNIFORMS FOR FASHION ONLY!
